Blogmas Day Twenty Four: Thank you and Merry Christmas

Yes some of the blog posts were late, including this one, but I am so pleased to have completed 24 Days of Blogmas. Thank you to everyone for your support and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I'll be back in the New Year!

Until next time,

Blogmas Day Twenty Three: Board Games

Blogmas Day Twenty Three: Board Games

With Christmas around the corner, it seems to be traditional for families after the big Christmas Dinner to get together and play Board Games. We have always played them in our household, traditionally my Mum hates board games but she will join in at Christmas. Here are some of the Board Games we enjoy playing.

1. Cards Against Humanity

You need to have a good sense of humour and not be easily offend when it comes to this game. Great to play after dinner, great to play with all members of the family - but it might be good to leave Nan watching the telly!

2. The Logo Game

If you love trivia, bit of a know it all - then this is the game for you. Questions about famous brands, logos and companies - moving your way around the board answering all the questions correctly.

3. Trivial Pursuit

Traditional Game, I think every household has a version of this game tucked away in the cupboard. They also do modern versions and versions with questions about Harry Potter and The Big Bang Theory.

4. Cluedo

Just what you need after dinner. Discover who was the murdered, in what room and with what object. Good for all the family - especially with the modern versions based on popular television programs or movies - I have the Doctor Who version.

5. Monopoly

Now, I am very wary of putting this game on this list - seeing as Monopoly has caused most Christmas Day arguments - however if you are lucky and no-one in your family is a cheat or too competitive then get the Monopoly board out.

Until Next Time,

Blogmas Day Twenty One: Table Settings

Blogmas Day Twenty One: Table Settings

For the past few years I have always done something interesting in regards to the table settings for Christmas Dinner. I have done stockings which would place people at the table, filled with cheap christmas things, games and of course an orange and 50p. This year I decided to change things up, not do stockings but instead doing small gift bags filled with fun bits to enjoy at the table before dinner. So I picked up 7 elf gift bags from Card Factory for 99p each. Then between my mum and myself we have been picking up bits and pieces to put in them. Most of the stuff has been picked up from Card Factory, Primark and Online, it's just to have a giggle at the table before dinner. So, everyone has a pair of festive glasses, a small activity - including pub quiz questions, festive trivia, joke book, charades and a small version of jenga. Then in some there is a Christmas Colouring Book and in other's is a make your own Christmas Tree with everyone having a Christmas Dinner Quiz sheet to fill in. I have also put a scratch card in everyone's gift bag. I have then written everyone's name on the tags and on Christmas Day I am going to place them on everyone's place at the dinner table. I cannot wait for them to see them.

Until next time,

Blogmas Day Twenty: Covent Garden At Christmas

Blogmas Day Twenty: Covent Garden At Christmas

One place in London I love visiting at Christmas is Covent Garden. You cannot help but feel festive when walking around the Covent Garden Market, visiting the independent market stalls, watching the street performers perform and of course the various musical acts and delicious food.

The Covent Garden Christmas Tree is always beautifully decorated and placed within the market place. I love visiting it and seeing the lights and huge baubles on it. For the past few years I always seem to take a picture of it because I love it so much and always makes me feel festive. I love how simplistic their decorates are but they still make an impact. Inside the market they decorate the ceiling with these impressive glitter balls and mistletoe which become part of the market place. It also makes you look up and appreciate it and of course take a picture. It's lovely to wondering around while you shop or just look at the things for sale. My favourite place to go in Covent Garden is a shop called Sass & Bell. It is a vintage style, shabby chic store selling Christmas Decorations, Trinkets, Boxes, Bunting, Mugs etc. I love visiting there and I always come out with something. This time my sister kindly brought me a Flamingo Glasses Case for my spare glasses, two baubles - one shaped like a cloud and one shapes like a star and a box of heart shaped baubles filled with pink stars. I absolutely love them, they are already on display in my bedroom. It was a lovely trip there, experiencing the festive surroundings and enjoying looking at the window displays, handmade items and listening to the variety of music and performers. If you haven't been to Covent Garden, please go, its a great place to experience all year around. I have to say its one of my happy places in London.

Until next time,

Blogmas Day Nineteen: Hamilton: An American Musical

Blogmas Day Nineteen: Hamilton: An American Musical

I was in the Room Where It Happens! I have never been so excited to see a musical, after waiting two years for it to come from Broadway and come to London. Luckily my wait is now over and I have finally seen the great work that is Hamilton: An American Musical.

Lin-Manuel Miranda's hit American Musical telling the story of the less known founding father of America, Alexander Hamilton - has finally come to London, after wowing audiences in New York, Chicago and San Francisco.

There was a worry about it coming to London, seeing as it's a musical depicting American history, but I have to admit - I have learnt about American History from this musical. Having discovered the soundtrack back at the end of 2015, I was unsure if I would enjoy it - seeing as its a hip hop/rap musical - which is usually not my scene - seeing as I am a huge Sondheim fan. However, I fell in love with the soundtrack, listen to it nearly every day as I went back and forth to university. Then followed everything on social media to do with the show, hoping for it to appear in London. Then - it came. When Billy Elliot closed at the Victoria Palace Theatre, after it's incredibly long run - Hamilton signs began appearing and my dreams of seeing it became true. My uncle very kindly got us tickets as soon as they went on sale - with the date of 19th December to see it placed firmly in my diary.

Soon the months past and the date got closer and closer. Finally it came around and I finally saw the musical I have been waiting for. It did not disappoint in anyway shape or form. The entire cast sung/rapped it beautifully, they were all high energy, dance moves with perfect and it was seamless from start to finish. The whole audience were on their feet by the end of it as the cast took their bows. I came out smiling - so pleased to see it before it officially opens on the 21st December. I came out beaming from ear to ear smiling and on such as high. I will now be singing the songs for the next few days.

Until next time,

Becky xxx

Blogmas Day Eighteen: Christmas Day Routine

Blogmas Day Eighteen: Christmas Day Routine

If you haven't already guessed - I love Christmas. Christmas is always big in our household, with months of preparing, lists, shopping, food planning, gift wrapping and of course list minute bits! Christmas Day is all about family with us, from the morning, right until the evening. I thought I would give you an insight into what Christmas Day looks like in my house.

Firstly, we always wake up early. It does not matter our age, but we are always up early. Typically my Mum wakes up before everyone to switch the oven on ready to put the turkey in for Christmas Dinner - baring in mind she prepares all the vegetables, other meats, potatoes etc on Christmas Eve. I then follow her or she might text me to wake me up. We then make sure all the lights in and outside the house are on.

Then, it's present time. I always sit by the tree to hand out the presents. Sometimes we make piles next to us so I can also open mind. Then we take it in turns, usually from youngest to eldest but my mum always wants to watch everyone else open presents rather than open hers. We always remind her to open hers.

Once all the presents are opened, out comes the recycling bag. We then place all the wrapping paper in various recycling bags, before scooping all our stuff up and taking upstairs or placing it into bags in order to take up later or home.

Mum checks on the turkey, starts thinking about what's next to cook and then we have breakfast. Usually its croissants and brioche as we are gearing up for the mammoth Christmas Dinner.

Then we start getting ready. Usually it's showers and getting your Christmas Day outfit on - which I have to admit is usually something stretchy and comfortable. This year I am going for Leggings, Christmas T-Shirt, Cardigan and socks. I do straighten my hair and sometimes put some make-up on.

It's then when family arrive - which means more presents to be opened, drinks to be gotten and of course making sure my mum needs help and setting up the Christmas Day Dinner table.

Then once dinner is ready, crackers are pulled, plates are full up and eating begins. Once eaten and enjoyed, we have pudding, it is then washed up and Christmas telly is enjoyed, board games are played and of course Turkey Sandwiches will be made. It usually ends with someone falling asleep on the sofa - once Christmas Pjs have been put back on.

I cannot wait for Christmas Day.

Until next time,

Blogmas Day Seventeen: Christmas Adverts

Blogmas Day Seventeen: Christmas Adverts

As soon as Halloween is over, you are awaiting the arrival of all the Christmas Adverts - so you truly know the festive season has begun. Days before companies are hinting on twitter when the advert is going to be played. Will it be before X Factor? Should I record it just in case I miss it? It's almost as excited as Christmas Day itself. Now over the years, there has been some crackers. Here are some of my favourites.

1. John Lewis Christmas Advert 2013: The Bear & The Hare

John Lewis always pull it out the bag when it comes to Christmas Adverts. My ultimate favourite has to be the 2013, The Bear & The Hare - I love the story and the music that accompanies it. Even to this day it makes me cry.

2. Sainsbury's Advert 2014: 1914

I love this advert. It is inspired by a real event that took place on Christmas Day 1914, where the British & the Germans forgot they were fighting each other and played football. Also to mark 100 years since the First World War begun. Really moving and one of their best adverts to date I think.

3. Aldi Christmas Advert: Kevin The Carrot 2017

I love Kevin The Carrot which is the Aldi advert for this year. Its a really cute advert and it's even better they are doing merchandise in store to go alongside it.

4. M&S Christmas Advert 2017: Paddington & The Christmas Visitor

Now if you've read my blog post all about Paddington Bear, then of course the M&S Christmas Advert for 2017 has to be on my favourite list. To top it off, M&S were doing Paddington Bear ornaments - and my sister grabbed me one. It's pride of place on my tree.

5. Sky Cinema Christmas Advert 2017

This advert really sums up a traditional Christmas. When I was little The Sound of Music was on telly every year at Christmas Time - so it is was the perfect movie to advertise Sky Cinema this year. Perfect and Cozy.

Blogmas Day Sixteen: Secret Santa

Blogmas Day Sixteen: Secret Santa

This was the first year I have ever taken part in a Secret Santa. At work, seeing as it was our first Christmas Work Party/Dinner it was decided that we were going to take part in Secret Santa. Blogmas Day Fifteen: Pushing Your Comfort Zone

Blogmas Day Fifteen: Pushing Your Comfort Zone

I am your typical stay at home, in pjs and watching the telly. I am happy to have friends come around my house and hang out - but I am not the typical "night" out girl. I never have been. When I turned 18, I hardly went out drinking, did not go clubbing until I was 20 - and since then only been three times and do not plan on going again. The idea of going on a night out freaked me out. Therefore I never went - I stuck to my comfort zone.

Sometimes, I would sit and scroll through Facebook and see all my friends on nights out - pictures taken in nightclubs, dinners, pubs or any event which involved being social and wished I could break my comfort zone and be at the event or party. My friends would invite me out - I would say I was going and then cancel at the last minute. I just could not break my comfort zone.

Do not get me wrong, I have been to things and organised night outs, dinners etc. There have been moments when I have broken my comfort zone, but only slightly and of course always been the first to leave. Therefore my social life has always been limited. However, I have great friends and I wished I could have been at a lot more events with them. I also went to university - with no freshers week! Therefore I was really sheltered.

Tonight, I have finally embraced breaking free from my comfort zone. I went to my Work's Christmas Party tonight. It was in a Pub - not far from work, with dinner, drinks and Karaoke. I have to admit, there was several times I wanted to bottle it and not go. I came up with excuses, plans and ideas of how to get out of it - however I did not and I actually went. There was several things that helped me to know that I was going - firstly I had to work two hours before the event, my friend at work invited me to get ready and hers before and the fact I paid ages ago for the meal.

I got dressed up, put my face on and went off to the Party. It was amazing, I had an amazing meal, drank my signature Diet Coke and laughed the entire night. I watched my workmates giggle and of course filmed them singing karaoke! I did not feel like running, I stayed for several hours, I spoke to everyone, made them laugh and did not feel anxious or panicky. I came home smiling, happy that I went and that I actually broke through my comfort zone.

One of my new year's resolutions is to be more sociable - make plans with friends and actually do stuff instead of staying in my room all the time. I also want to keep breaking my comfort zone - even if its doing something for a second that I would usually feel uncomfortable with. I am also pleased to have made friends at work, knowing I have new friends to hang out with - and trying to say yes to more things.

If you are struggling to break your comfort zone, do it one step at a time. If you plan too far ahead to do something you would usually feel uncomfortable then you won't do it. But be sure, you can do it.

Until next time,

Becky xxx

Blogmas Day Fourteen: Gingerbread Biscuits

Blogmas Day Fourteen: Gingerbread Biscuits

It's only right to do some sort of Festive baking during the Christmas Season. For the past three years I have baked Gingerbread Biscuits, which is the definition of Christmas. The smell of Ginger consumes the house - adding to the Christmas Spirit. I mainly bake these for my Sister, who absolutely loves them during Christmas - especially topped with Icing Sugar Icing.

I follow the same recipe every year and basically make a huge mess of the kitchen. My favourite part is measuring out and then pouring into the large saucepan the golden syrup - I do also cheekily lick the spoon after pouring it into the saucepan. It smells amazing when your combine the sugars, butter and golden syrup.
Once the mixture is combined - I then have to chill it for 30 minutes - wrapped in cling film. As you have to melt sugars, butter and golden syrup - that part of the mixture is hot and once combined with the flour and spices - it has to be chilled in order for you to work with it.
Once chilled and rolled out - I cut out shapes of the gingerbread biscuits. This recipes is actually for a Gingerbread House - which means you get a lot of biscuits - depending how thick you roll them out to. This time around I got 34 biscuits out of it - other years I have gotten 72 biscuits! Once they have all be cut out and place onto baking sheets - I line mine with greaseproof paper - I bake them for 15 minutes, 180 Degree in a Fan Oven. I also choose circle shapes as they are easy to pile together for gifts etc.

Once they have been baked and left to full go cold - if you apply icing to hot biscuits it will just slide off - it's time to make the icing for the top of the biscuits. I like to do the icing quite thick - therefore there is no science behind my measurements - I basically sift icing sugar into a bowl and then add cold water to it and mix it together with a wooden spoon. I then applied a thick layer to the top of each biscuit with a palette knife.

And there you go - simple gingerbread biscuits that my sister will love and I love to bake for her every single year. The recipes can be found in a cook book called Bake by Rachel Allen.

Until Next Time,

Blogmas Day Thirteen: Sh*t Gets Real

Blogmas Day Thirteen: Sh*t Gets Real

We are now at the halfway to Christmas point. This is where the real panic sets in and everyone suddenly realises that they haven't ordered their turkey, great aunt Madge is now coming for Christmas and you did not get her a Christmas Present yet - or that Amazon order you placed at the beginning of December keeps getting delayed.

Do Not Worry - you've got this.

Tips for not panicking!

1. Get real with your family
- If they have not RSVPed to your Christmas Day Dinner then called them up and demand an answer.

2. Make a List
- Put together everyone you still need to get presents for and make another one of who you've got presents for - then tick off when arrived and when ordered.

3. Festive Fun
- Make sure you take time to enjoy the festive season - cause it will be gone before you know it. Even if you still have to something while watching a festive film - at least you are watching a film.

4. Get Help
- Make sure you are getting help with your tasks. Do not take on everything, you will burn out.

5. Wrap as you got
- I know it's tempting to leave all the wrapping until Christmas Eve - but believe me you'll hate yourself. Wrap as you go - maybe with that Christmas Film on.

6. Declutter as you go
- Sort out spaces as you go. Do not leave it until days before Christmas - that side in the Kitchen you want to use as a Bar - sort it out now, not Christmas Eve.

7. Make a Last Minute List
- These should include items you could not get in one shop - make multiple copies for everyone in your house - if they go out one day and find it - it can be ticked off.

8. Book Online Grocery Shopping Now
- If you are planning to have your Christmas Shopping Delivered - make sure you are placing your order now! You have until the day before the delivery date to edit it - but do it now or you'll be joining the crowds day before Christmas.

I hope these little tips and tricks help - please make sure you are enjoying Christmas and not wishing it ends soon.

Until Next Time,

Becky xxx

Blogmas Day Twelve: What I got for my Birthday

Blogmas Day Twelve: What I got for My Birthday

I am a December Baby. I celebrate my birthday just before Christmas and this year I turned 25 on the 12th December. I have no problem with being born in December. I think where my birthday lands is perfect - it's close to Christmas but still far enough away. The only time I struggle is when I celebrate big birthdays - getting a venue is really difficult due to Christmas parties and special menus. However, we make it work. This year I had the weekend before my birthday off work and we went to Bath - but on the actual day I woke up at home and then spent the rest of the day with my Sister and Friend at my Sister's place. I had a casual birthday, involving Pizza, Sweets, Cake and Cards Against Humanity.

I was spoilt for my birthday and was very lucky to receive some amazing presents from my friends and family - as well as a ton of messages on Facebook and texts. From my friend, she got me my all-time love - Harry Potter Socks and a Gryffindor Make Up Bag. From my parents, grandmothers and uncle I got money to spend on whatever I like. And from my amazing sister - she got me not one, but three pairs of trainers. Two pairs of converse - which are my all time favourite shoes and I had my eye on a pair since summer - which are pink and yellow ombre glitter and she got them for me. She then got me and extra pair - which are high tops purple velvet pair - which are stunning. The last pair was a pair of trainers I had my heart set on. These were a pair of purple gazelle Adidas trainers - which I saw on a girl when we were at a Harry Potter event. I fell in love with them and wanted them so badly. My sister searched the world for them - finding out they were from last year. Just as she was about to give up - with help from someone at work - she found me a pair. I love all of them and cannot wait to wear them everyday! All three - hourly changing haha!

Thank you to everyone for the amazing presents, cards and messages -from my friends and family.

Until next time,

Blogmas Day 11: A Bear called Paddington

Blogmas Day 11: A Bear called Paddington

While everyone else would say their Childhood Hero might have been Action Man or Barbie - or today Peppa Pig and Shopkins, mine happens to be a bear called Paddington. I love Paddington Bear - he is the best character from my childhood and still at the grand age of 25 I get excited when new stuff is realised to do with this special bear.

Paddington Bear was created by the late great Michael Bond. He first appeared in October 1958, in a book titled A Bear Called Paddington. Since then there has been a series of books detailing the story of Paddington, a bear from deepest darkest Peru. He is named by the Brown Family, who found him on Paddington Station wearing a sign saying "Please Look After this Bear." He then lives in Windsor Gardens with the Brown Family - getting up to all sorts of adventures and mishaps. He is also a lover of Marmalade Sandwiches.

I have loved the Paddington Bear stories since I was little - with my dream being wanting to own a Duffle Coat just like Paddington's in blue! I currently own two Paddington Bear stuffed toys, a figurine and a snow globe. My love and passion for this bear came back when the Paddington Bear films were released. I was so pleased to see they had made a Paddington Bear film and even more exciting when the second one was realised this year. I also share this passion for Paddington with my Dad, which is a nice common ground we have together.

I love this bear so much, that one a recent trip to Bath - which was catching the train from Paddington Station, there was no chance I wasn't passing up on going to the Paddington Bear Shop in order pick up some Paddington trinkets. But, another thing that is awesome about Paddington Station - they have statues of Paddington Bear around the station - seeing as it the Bear's namesake and where the inspiration of the story came from. This is me at the actual platform in the book where the Brown Family met Paddington for the first time. Of course I was trilled to see this statue and luckily my sister was willing to take pictures of me with it. There is also a plaque detailing where Michael Bond got the inspiration for the stories.
Paddington will always be part of my life. If I have children, Paddington will be a big part of there lives too. I want to pass of my passion to my hopefully one day children and keep Paddington always part of my life. Hopefully one day I will also own a proper blue duffle coat.

Until Next Time,

Blogmas Day Ten: And then we got Snow!

Blogmas Day Ten: And then we got Snow!

I'm writing this to you from a Snowy Essex. It is so picturesque to see snow falling over my garden this morning. We do not get Snow a lot in the UK, due to the fact we are never extremely cold and we never get snow during the Festive Season. This morning we awoke to a downfall of snow!

Now, we were not forecast to have snow - when I looked at the Met Office app last night before going to bed, we had a yellow warning for wind - not for snow! When I woke up this morning, that was a very different story. It was snowing, and it was quite heavy. And to quote the song - it didn't show signs of stopping. In a few hours the whole place was completely covered in snow and it only stopped snowing this afternoon. I love snow, I love the silence that comes from the snow. When I say silence, it's a special, kind of magical silence. It's the idea that the snow has come out of no where, everyone stays in their houses watching the snow fall outside the window. No cars, no people just silence. I love it. People seem to get on with their lives here, which is amazing but scary to see them driving their cars down the hill that I live on - extremely slowly. I do not go out in it like I use to when I was little - cause I'm always scared of falling over but I do love seeing parents take their little ones out to see the snow for the first time, groups of kids having snowball fights and of course the Dad's out clearing their pathways. My favourite is Dogs - they do not understand what has just happened. My own dog has only seen snow twice - this time was the first time that it had properly landed - so she whizzed around our garden, still not understanding what it was. She also barked at it a lot - which was hilarious to see. Our cat on the other hand - went outside, took one look at it and run back in. This might be the only time we see snow this year, and we might not see it again unless we get a really bad weather in January or February.

So, since we've no place to go...Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow.....

Until Next Time,

Becky xxx

Blogmas Day Nine: Christmas in Bath

Blogmas Day Nine: Christmas in Bath

Every year we as a family do something new during the lead up to Christmas. This usually involves visiting a new Christmas Market, Festival or Faye. This year, we decided to take a day trip to Bath, Somerset.

We were up early to drive from Essex to London Paddington, where at 9:48am we caught the train to Bath Spa. It was a fast train and we got to Bath Spa within an hour and a half. The trains were also really comfortable. Once we arrived, we made sure our coats, hats and scarves were pulled tight as it was freezing in Bath, we then journey to get a cab to 1 Royal Crescent.

This is the beautiful Royal Crescent, which is a famous point in Bath, which everyone goes and sees. It is next to 1 Royal Crescent, which was built between 1767 and 1774. It is displays items used by both upstairs and downstairs illustrating Georgian domestic life. When we went to visit the House has been dressed for a Georgian Christmas.

During the visit to 1 Royal Crescent, we got to see inside several different areas, including the Study, Gentlemen's Retreat, Drawing Room, Dining Room, Bedroom but also the Kitchen and Scullery. Most of the room had a guide on stand by who welcomed you into the room and would happily give you information about the decor, how it was decorated for Christmas and to answer any questions you had. They were really helpful and the rooms were all decorated in a stunning way - I would happily spend Christmas there. I loved the added details for the festive season - for example in the Gentlemen's Retreat - there was a bottle and two glasses which were filled with Mulled Wine. The House, now being a Museum and quite a small place to be a museum - it made it feel quite cosy and with the added decorations made it feel really festive and Christmassy. In the Dining Room, the table was set for Dinner - but this being the Dessert portion of the Dinner Party. We discovered that a Dinner Party would last several hours and that the servants would lay the table with the food but the guests would be expected to help themselves. It was an amazing place to venture around, especially with it being somewhere I had never visited before. Everyone who worked there was so friendly and happy to help and give you as much information as possible. If you are planning to visit Bath, I think this should be your first stop!

We then hopped on a local bus and made our way to the Bath Christmas Market. Now this made me feel really Christmassy. There was music, the smell of Mulled Wine, and fake snow being blasted now and again. It was also really busy, which was amazing to see, cause it gave you an understanding that it was popular and good. Each small business had a little shack where they were selling there good from. This included food stalls, handmade goods, sweets, clothes, christmas decorations etc. It was amazing to walk past the stores and see items that you would not usually come across in normal shops and stores. We picked up Cheese, a new hat, Fudge, a Christmas Pudding, a picture and a handmade rabbit necklace (thank you Katie!). It was so festive and a really good market to visit. I liked that not all the stalls were in the same place, they were all off of the town centre and down side streets - so they were around every corner! All the stall owners were really friendly and were happy to help and give you information, free samples and of course wish you a Merry Christmas. It was an incredible experience and one of the best Christmas Markets I have been too! While we were at the Market, we also came across a shop called December 25. This store is open all year and it sells amazing Christmas decorations. We cannot go to a new City and not pick up a bauble or two! We got five baubles all together that are now pride of place on our Christmas tree.

Bath was incredible. It was so festive and made me feel really Christmassy. We all had an amazing time, then grabbed a train home. It was nice to come home tired from an amazing Day. Definitely going to go back and visit again.

Until next time,
