Blogmas Day One: Decorating The Christmas Tree

Blogmas Day One: Decorating The Christmas Tree

Every year we got big or go home when it comes to Christmas. We decorate the inside and outside of the house. We choose a theme, in regards to the outside decorations we change how they hang, we new window display each year and of course I go to town on the Christmas Tree. Every year I want to improve how I decorate the tree every year, to make it look fuller and for it to make it's statement in the living room. This year I think I have nailed it this year.

Firstly, I do not bother with trying to string lights onto the tree. I have done that before with previous trees but it does not wash with me and I end up getting fed up and annoyed and then the lights get tangled. My tree is pre-lit and it's a blessing - as long as you can find the connectors. Once that is sorted I always decorate the tree with the fairy lights on - therefore I get a good idea of where to place all the other baubles and ornaments. My tree is 6ft tall but we stand in on a table in order to give it some extra high but also to keep it out the way of the animals. (We have a cat & a dog).

This year I wanted to add something to the tree in order to fill in the space/gaps between the branches. After a lot of googling and searching on Pinterest I discovered ribbon or in my case organza provided the perfect way to jazz the tree up but also fill in some of the gaps and open spaces. I do not like tinsel on a christmas tree, so this provided a good alternative. After some rearranging, I finally got it in the way I wanted. It was now ready for the baubles and ornaments.

I like traditional colours when it comes to a Christmas Tree, these being gold, green and red. I have collected a lot of them over the last few years - especially from my favourite places, that being two local garden centres. I have also ordered a lot from amazon. This year I ordered six huge baubles for the tree this year - in the colours red and gold. Again this was to fill gaps and open spaces in the tree but to also make it appear fuller and it give some depth to the size of the other baubles. I then filled the rest of the tree with other baubles and ornaments, some which are sentimental, brand new, old faithfuls and ones I like to call "space fillers". I like my tree to be full.

I am really pleased with my creation this year. I think its the best design for the tree yet. Once it was decorated I placed it onto the table into the corner and added a tree skirt to the bottom of the tree in order to hid the wires and the tree base. I then climbed onto a chair and added our tree topper - which this year is Tinkerbell. Also this year to add something to the whole decoration, we have added a circle red rug underneath the tree - as this year we are placing all the presents into sacks, with each labelled with the person's name.

I hope you enjoyed Day One of Blogmas - I am gonna (hopefully) blog every day leading up to Christmas!

Until Next Time,
