Blogmas Day Six: Preparing For Christmas
Christmas is all about family. The majority of people spend Christmas Day with their families. That might be travelling to family or your family coming to yours - but it also means a lot of preparing. This year we have the family at our house, therefore the run up to Christmas also involves preparing the house for guests. Now we are weeks away from Christmas Day, it's time to tackle those corners you have been putting off all year and you definitely do not want your family seeing how messy you are. Here's my step by step on how to get your house ready for family this Christmas.
1. That Cupboard Under The Stairs!
Not everyone has a cupboard under the stairs where they store their coats, shoes, shopping bag and the extra blankets and curtains. We do, it's always getting messy. Now I do not want my family to see the mess when they go to put their coat or shoes in the cupboard. Therefore, it was simply tackled today. I re-organised all the stuff we have put away for Christmas from the Living Room - non-christmas themed blankets, cushions and curtains - these are stored in vacuum packed bags - which are a lifesaver when it comes to creating storage space. I vacuumed the whole cupboard, which makes the floor look lovely and clean, especially all the corners - which seemed to be covered in glitter. I then hung up coats/jackets that are not currently being used and re-organised the shoes. Now everything has it's place again and I happy for my family to see the cupboard when they hang up their coats or put their shoes in it.
2. Chest of Drawers & Wardrobe
Now, you are not guaranteed to get new pyjamas or clothes for Christmas but it's good to be prepared. Therefore it's time to sort out your wardrobe and chest of drawers, getting rid of old stuff, faded stuff, stuff you haven't even worn ready to put new stuff that you might get. I did this today - threw away anything that was broken or faded and now the drawers are sorted and ready for the new stuff to be placed in.
3. Bedding
It's a good idea to go through all your bedding. This time of year we have festive bedding, but if you are having family over for Christmas it's good to make sure that if any are staying you have enough bedding to serve all of them.
4. Carpets
If part of your house or the whole of your house has carpet, then it's a good idea to give them a good vacuum and clean. Carpets are walked on everyday and it's a good idea to make sure they are smelling fresh - especially with family coming and a lot more people walking over them.
These are some of the jobs that I find it's good to tackle before you are full invested the the festive spirit. We try to get them ticked off, so we can finish wrapping, watch holidays films and eat loads of food.
Until Next Time,
Becky xxx
